Project BIO-Boost kicked off a transformative series of events in Warsaw, Poland, from the 14th to the 17th of May, featuring a partner meeting, an in-depth study visit, and a highly impactful hackathon. These events were designed to foster innovation and collaboration within the bioeconomy sector.
Day 1: Exploring the Polish Innovation Ecosystem
The first day was packed with insightful sessions beginning with the Project BIO-Boost partner meeting. Delegates delved into Poland's thriving innovation ecosystem, with particular focus on Research & Innovation (R&I) networks, hubs, projects, and financing instruments that bolster bioeconomy development. Key presentations included:
- Agriculture 4.0ย - Tomasz Czech from the University of Agriculture in Cracow provided a comprehensive report on innovations within the Polish agro sector.
- Innovations in Nutritionย - Marta Sikorska of NCBR discussed NUTRITECH and the role of nutrition in enhancing societal well-being amidst climate challenges.
- International BioEconomy Programmesย - Jan Osiลski of NCBR detailed various international programmes promoting bioeconomy.
- National Bioeconomy Hub in Polandย - Piotr Jurga from the Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation in Puลawy highlighted opportunities for intersectoral cooperation.
- The Nature-based Solutions for Soil Management (NBSOIL)ย - Grzegorz Siebielec presented a holistic vision of soil health through nature-based solutions.
The afternoon included a study visit to Sygnis SA, showcasing real-world applications of bioeconomy innovations. Katarzyna Kowalska of UNIMOS presented their ecosystem, services, and project portfolio, leading into a dynamic session on financing innovations in European ecosystems.
Day 2: Agile Hackathon โ Driving Bioeconomy Innovations
The highlight of the event was the Pan-European Agile Hackathon, organized by the UNIMOS Alliance and the NCBR Office in Brussels. This event exemplified the application of agile principles, focusing on short cycles, delivering value, and continuous improvement. The hackathon brought together over 45 participants from diverse sectors, including:
- Business & Startups
- Science
- Clusters
- Public Administration
- Innovation Agencies
- Chambers of Commerce
Representing seven countries from two continents (๐ฆ๐ท๐ซ๐ท๐ต๐ฑ๐ช๐ธ๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ฑ๐น๐ซ๐ฎ), participants formed seven cross-disciplinary working groups. The intense agenda led to impressive results:
- 17 agile techniques applied
- Creation of 7 prototypes, each followed by elevator pitches
- Generation of 324 innovative ideas for the bioeconomy
- Formation of 135 new network linkages
Facilitated by Ximena A Valente Hervier, the hackathon underscored the potential of collaboration in driving forward bioeconomy innovations.
Day 3: EARTO Annual Conference
The third day saw partners attending the European Association of Research and Technology Organisations (EARTO) Annual Conference, discussing the critical role of European RTOs in supporting the EU's Open Strategic Autonomy. This provided another platform for engaging with leaders in research and technology, culminating in the EARTO Annual Conference Dinner Reception.
Project BIO-Boost's events in Warsaw successfully highlighted the integral role of innovation and collaboration in advancing the bioeconomy. These gatherings not only showcased groundbreaking ideas and prototypes but also established vital connections, reinforcing the project's commitment to sustainable development and intersectoral cooperation.
